1Who we are
Parlamos is an online place to practice languages by chatting with people in other countries. Chatting is free. Some members, who we call teachers, also offer paid lessons.
In these Terms, "Parlamos," "we," and "us" mean the Parlamos service. By creating an account or using Parlamos, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use Parlamos.
2Who can use Parlamos
You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter a binding agreement. When you sign up, you agree to give accurate information and to create an account for yourself, not for someone else.
You are responsible for what happens on your account. Keep your password private, and let us know promptly if you think someone else has used your account.
3Free chat and paid lessons
Free exchanges happen directly between members. Parlamos gives you the place to meet and message, but is not a party to what you arrange between yourselves.
Teachers who sell lessons are independent. They are not our employees or agents, and they are responsible for the lessons they run. We do not guarantee any member's conduct, qualifications, or that you will reach a particular result. Lessons and calls take place on Parlamos.
4Community rules
You agree to use Parlamos lawfully and to follow our Community rules, which are part of these Terms. Harassment, fraud, asking to move money off the platform, and lying about your identity or credentials are not allowed. We may review reports, remove content, and suspend or close accounts that break the rules.
5Teachers and payouts
Teachers set their own prices and are responsible for their listings and any credentials they show. A credential badge reflects our review of what a teacher sent us. It is not a guarantee, and we are not responsible for a credential a teacher misrepresented to us.
Teachers must verify their identity before they can be paid, and they are responsible for their own taxes. Selling is available only in countries our payment partner supports. Free exchange is open everywhere.
6Payments, holds, and refunds
Students pay the listed price. There is no extra student fee. Payments are handled by our payment provider, and we do not store your card details.
We hold a lesson payment until the lesson is confirmed, then release it to the teacher, keeping a 10% platform fee. Fees are shown before you book. Refunds and disputes are described on our Trust and refunds page, which is part of these Terms. We decide disputed bookings reasonably, based on the information available.
7Your content
You own the content you post, such as messages, listings, and reviews. By posting it, you give Parlamos permission to host and display it as needed to run the service. Only post content you have the right to share, and that does not infringe anyone else's rights.
Ratings and reviews must be honest and based on a real interaction or completed lesson. We may remove content that breaks this rule or our Community rules.
8Our brand and content
The Parlamos name, logo, and the design of the site belong to Parlamos and its licensors. These Terms do not give you the right to use our brand, except as needed to use the site normally.
9The service is provided as is
We work hard to keep Parlamos running well, but we provide it "as is." We cannot promise that it will always be available, error-free, or uninterrupted, or that every member or credential is accurate. To the extent the law allows, we disclaim warranties that are not stated in these Terms.
10Limits on our responsibility
To the maximum extent the law allows, Parlamos is not liable for indirect, incidental, or unexpected damages arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of the fees you paid us in the past 12 months or $100. Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
You agree to cover reasonable claims and costs that result from your own misuse of Parlamos, your content, or your breach of these Terms.
11Ending your account
You can close your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these Terms or the law. Some parts of these Terms keep applying after your account ends, including ownership, the disclaimers, and the limits on responsibility. See our Privacy Policy for how your data is handled afterward.
12The law that applies
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the laws of Canada that apply there.
If a problem comes up, please email us first at support@parlamos.com so we can try to resolve it. If we cannot, the courts of Ontario, Canada will handle the dispute. Nothing here removes rights you may have under the consumer-protection laws where you live.
13Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make an important change, we will post it here with a new date and, where appropriate, let you know. If you keep using Parlamos after a change takes effect, you accept the updated Terms.
